Directions:
UNC Charlotte Uptown is located at 220 North Tryon Street , on the third floor of the new Mint Museum of Craft + Design.   We are on Tryon between 5th and 6th streets, next to the “old” Carolina Theater, on one side, and the new Hearst Tower courtyard and Ri Ra Pub on the other.  The Dunhill Hotel is across the street.  The Charlotte Chamber has a detailed map.  Here are some general driving instructions:
 
From Charlotte-Douglas International Airport :
Shuttle buses and taxis are available to most major hotels and office buildings in Charlotte .  UNC Charlotte Uptown is located in the Mint Museum of Craft + Design Building (the former Montaldo’s Building) at 220 North Tryon Street , between Fifth and Sixth Streets, directly across from the “ 201 North Tryon Street ” building.  The closest hotels are the Dunhill Hotel (Sixth and Tryon), the Holiday Inn (Sixth and College), the Marriott ( Trade Street between Church and Tryon), and the Omni ( Trade Street between Tryon and College).
 
From I-77 Northbound: (including directions to nearest parking garage)
Take I-77 North to I-277 and exit onto College Street .  Take College Street to Sixth Street .  Turn left on Sixth Street and go across Tryon Street to the 201 North Tryon Street parking garage (located on the left-hand side on Sixth Street past the Dunhill Hotel).  Take the elevator from the parking deck to the third floor (lobby) of the 201 building.  Go through the lobby to Tryon Street .  Directly across Tryon Street is the Mint Museum of Craft + Design.  UNC Charlotte Uptown is located on the third floor of the museum.

From I-77 Southbound:
Take the Fifth Street East or Trade Street East exit and proceed east to College Street .  Turn left on College Street and go to Sixth Street .  Take a left on Sixth Street and go across Tryon Street to the 201 North Tryon Street parking garage (located on the left-hand side on Sixth Street past the Dunhill Hotel).  See parking instructions and directions to the building above.

From the University Area:
Take I-85 South to I-77 South and follow the above directions.  Or take Tryon Street south to Sixth Street , turn right and enter the 201 North Tryon Street parking garage on the left-hand side of Sixth Street (and follow the above directions).

Parking:
Parking is available in several commercial lots in the vicinity of UNC Charlotte Uptown. At this time, many of these garages charge $2.00 for each 20 minutesduring the day, with a maximum charge of $16.00 or more per day.  Parking is also available at other surface lots and parking garages in the uptown area. All of these facilities are privately owned and all charge a fee for parking.

There is a free shuttle bus called the “Gold Rush Circulator” that runs several routes around the uptown area from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Some people find it convenient to park in a lot on the edge of the city and ride the free shuttle bus to the center city area.

At present, students enrolled in academic courses may park for free after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays  in the 201 North Tryon Street garage (formerly the IJL Financial Center ) if specific guidelines are followed. This garage may be entered from Sixth Street . There is also metered parking on the street. Street parking has a two-hour limit and is not available at all hours.  The closet parking is the 201 North Tryon garage. After parking in that garage, take the elevator to the third floor for access to the lobby.
 

Please note that UNC Charlotte campus parking stickers
are not valid in any commercial parking facility uptown.
